The Komi family is settling in nicely in their new Roxbury neighborhood. Just around the corner is a playground with climbing structures, slides, and swings that the younger boys enjoy. There’s also a fountain that shoots sprinkles of water on demand 10 feet into the air. Not too far away in Dudley Square is Tropical Foods supermarket with great selection and prices.
Learning how to use the washer and dryer was an important teaching moment this week. And even before formal ESL classes begin, the family is eager to improve their English and are being tutored by former ESL teachers.
APPOINTMENTS: It’s been a busy week with registration at Jewish Vocational Services that will enroll Mujahid and Huda in job training and English classes as the first step toward employment. Everyone went to the Boston Medical Center clinic that serves refugees and the children began receiving vaccinations necessary to start school.
THANK YOU: Thank you to all of you who have donated clothes for the family, including plenty of cool and cold weather gear. We do not need any more clothes or toys at the moment.
